Extension of temporary entry ban to the EU via Sweden
Last Friday, the Swedish government decided to extend the temporary entry ban to the EU via Sweden until 15 June 2020. The entry ban initially entered into force on 19 March 2020 and was made following a recommendation by the European Commission to reduce the risk of spreading the novel corona virus.
The temporary entry ban does not apply to:
- Citizens from the European Economic Area and Switzerland;
- People with a long-term resident status in Sweden or another European Union Member State;
- Individuals with a residence permit in Sweden or another EU state, who are returning home;
- Holders of a national visa for Sweden, if returning home.
Kindly note that first-time work permit holders travelling to Sweden from outside the EU for the first time on their new permit will be denied entry.
Even though the temporary travel ban does not affect travel within the European Union, many EU countries still have closed their borders, so we advise you to check each country’s restrictions before making any trip within the EU.
